You have probably been to many birthday parties over the years, your own party and
the parties of others. Some have been special while others were not very memorable.
They come around with some regularity. But a birth that is something that is very
memorable, even life changing. The lives of the parents are changed forever. The lives of future friends and family are changed. History is changed even if it is in a small way because the baby was born.
Advent invites us not to a birthday party, but to a birth. The world has changed, our
lives have changed because Jesus was born. We have a very different perspective if we
are anticipating a birth rather than a birthday party. I invite you to spend some time
looking at Advent through those eyes.
