Christian Nationalism - Is that Biblical?

Lately, the news has mentioned Christian Nationalism as the goal of several individuals and groups for our country. The goal is to enact laws that make people behave like Christians, whether or not that is their faith.
As someone who has studied and used scripture for fifty years, there is no idea of Christian Nationalism in the Bible. The entire New Testament is written assuming that Christians are not in charge. Jesus never mentioned what his followers should do when they take over.
There are Jewish Nationalism with a mix of religion and government in the Hebrew Bible. Some of those rules require the stoning of people caught in adultery. Others require the stoning of rebellious children. I don’t think we want to do that.
Our faith is governed by love more than law, grace more than right behavior. Jesus never said, “Make people act like Christians.” He said, “Tell the people the good news, show people what it means to love, forgive, and welcome.” Then they freely will want Jesus in their life, not from fear of punishment.

Start a youth on the right path, and even when he is old he will not turn from it.
